IPSC Canada and IPSC Alberta are supporting the development of IPSC shotgun shooting in Canada.

IPSC Canada/NROI has developed a Black Badge course for shotgun.  This Beta course is being deployed across Canada.

THERE IS NO REQUIREMENT FOR ANY CURRENT BLACK BADGE (Handgun) CERTIFIED MEMBER TO TAKE THE SHOTGUN COURSE IN ORDER TO SHOOT A SHOTGUN MATCH.  If you are currently Handgun Black Badge certified you can shoot any discipline of IPSC in Canada.

One problem with getting IPSC Shotgun activity started is the high initial learning curve to effectively shoot shotgun, and the cost to get started.  The Black Badge Course provides instruction on how to shoot shotgun and what is needed to be competitive.  This course will help with the high initial learning curve.  It may provide some guidance as to what equipment is needed to keep the start-up costs down.

There is a Shotgun Black Badge course scheduled for September 19-20 at KGAC.  The priority for attendance at this course is the Alberta Black Badge instructors.  This will provide more shotgun certified instructors in Alberta.  After the response from the instructors, there are still a couple of slots available.

These slots are available to IPSC AB members:

    • Currently Black Badge certified,
    • Currently NROI Officials (we will cover the shotgun component for RO’s),
    • Members that own a suitable shotgun (pump or semi) with a minimum of a 4 shell magazine,
    • Members with equipment to hold shotgun shells.

The cost to attend is $190, plus provide your own ammunition, lunches, and personal equipment.

Due to the generous support of IPSC Alberta members, there are a limited number of shotgun caddies available to loaned out.  There are also a couple of suitable shotguns available.  If you wanted to borrow either the shotguns or caddies, you will need to advise as soon as possible.

If you are interested in attending this course, contact the PTO (training@ipscalberta.org).  Payment and course information needs to be dealt with quickly if you want to attend.
